About the Book

Not So Motherly

My Personal Life Experiences with a Stepmother Not so Motherly

Not So Motherly: My Life with a Stepmother: Not So Motherly is Adesuwa Lillian’s unflinching memoir of surviving ten years of abuse at the hands of her stepmother in Nigeria. At age seven, she and her brothers were taken from their mother’s family and brought to live with a woman who treated them as servants rather than children. Forced to hawk goods on the streets, denied adequate food, beaten with rocks and a mortar pestle, and subjected to daily verbal cruelty, Adesuwa transformed her pain into purpose. She promised to prove her stepmother wrong by building a successful life.

Now a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, married for 25 years with four children, she writes from a place of healing, not hatred. She offers candid advice to stepmothers, mothers considering divorce, and stepchildren navigating similar experiences. This memoir is both a searing indictment of mistreatment and a powerful testament to resilience.

About the Book

Looking For Love – Book Two

Still Standing: A Mother's Journey Through Chaos And Hope

Looking for Love – Book Two by Tracy M. Hayward is a deeply personal memoir about motherhood, family, and the quiet strength it takes to keep going when life refuses to get easier. Moving beyond the violence and survival battles of the first book, Hayward now faces a different struggle: holding a family together while carrying the emotional, financial, and spiritual weight of everyday life. Her children are growing older, making adult choices, and bringing new responsibilities into her world before she has time to catch her breath. As she becomes a grandmother, faces housing insecurity, copes with job loss, and worries over children who are drifting, she must find new reserves of patience, faith, and courage.

Set against the realities of poverty, grief, and family conflict, this memoir is as honest as it is compassionate. Hayward writes in a voice shaped by lived experience, refusing to romanticize pain while still making room for humor, tenderness, and hope. It is the story of a woman still standing—still loving, still learning, and still fighting to build something better.
